Biographies and Memoirs

This area is full of "good reads" and it's difficult to single one out. A favorite among Alaskans is Tales of Alaska's Bush Rat Governor, an autobiography of Jay Hammond, who decades after serving as governor remains the state's favorite politician. But this book is not so much about politics as it is about the life of a fascinating and beloved Alaskan.

A title receiving glowing reviews was Moments Rightly Placed: An Aleutian Memoir, by Ray Hudson, a beautifully written story about a young man who comes from the East to teach school on a remote Aleutian Island for a year or two and stays nearly a quarter-century.
